Painting pine furniture white?

I was planning on painting my pine table and chairs white, but need the advice of Mumsnet as I don't know if it would work. Any thoughts?

I've painted a pine chest of drawers, a rocking chair and a bookcase with Rustoleum Chalky furniture paint and they've turned out really well. You have to make sure the furniture is clean but apart from that no preparation is needed. When the paint is dry you put a coat of wax on. I would put an extra coat on a table top and the seats of the chairs to make it more durable

I've done this to my kitchen table and chairs. I used Rustoleum chalk paint, but finished with a couple of coats of clear matt varnish for more durability. I also stained and varnished the table top because I wasn't convinced chalk paint would be up to that amount of battery - but your kids may be less lethal than mine.

I wasn't sure if varnish could be used with Rustoleum paint - good to know it can be for future reference

Thank you for the replies - funnily enough I have exactly the same paint you mentioned! My youngest DD is 16 so don't think there will be much battering to withstand Grin
Am off to paint them now!

Rustoleum do their own varnish intended for use with chalk paint. It's quite expensive - I don't know if normal varnish would be ok, but I don't see why not.
