Colours for kitchen... Help!

When I get back off holiday in a couple of weeks, I'm attacking my tired, horrible kitchen with Fablon and lots of paint! I can't decide on colours though. I'm using AS chalk paint for the cabinets and quite fancy cream, or white, or grey... I just can't decide! If I go for cream, what colour should I paint the tiles? And wood effect or slate effect worktop? Floor is currently slate effect knackered laminate, so laying vinyl over that, but can't decide on that either!

My dining table is light oak, chairs are untreated pine, but planning on painting/staining them to match whatever colour scheme I decide on. Would an oak effect worktop look ok to match the table?

As for the walls, I have no idea there either! Instinct is to go for some red as my kettle, toaster etc are red, but my living room is largely red accessories (moved from an open plan house) so don't want it to look like I've got a red theme on the whole downstairs!

Any ideas?

Annie Sloan chalk paint?? But that's not hard wearing, it marks exceptionally easily

Olive green is popular in kitchens at the moment ( I work in paint)

In going to use the Annie Sloan paint in a sage green colour my friends done hers in a dark grey looks good but she has said it marks very easily as well so expect that.

I've had a practice on a spare cabinet door, and two coats plus waxing seems to be holding up pretty well. I've left it propped up in the kitchen so as it can be knocked into by the dogs and ds and it's not got a mark on it yet.

Yes I'm quite fancying a green of some sort.

sage green with a silvery grey maybe or a dulled apple with a warm cream. re the floor would you consider a painted floor? I did mine like a carpet with a border and after the painting , i applied several layers of non shiny varnish. It has lasted for nearly 10 years!
