Help for a clueless interior 'designer' please.

Hi

New sitting room has bronze coloured carpet. That's all so far. Sofas weblike are mid brown. Only current (not to be replaced) piece of furniture I'd walnut antique sewing machine and a light walnut 1930s cocktail cabinet.

Room is north facing but with large window. New build so not high ceilings but I'm not wanting mega modern.

Please help with colour scheme / curtain / blind colours. I dance a blind with 'pretend' full drop curtains (radiator under window).

No fireplace yet, will choose that when the style of the room is decided.

I have lots of black and white old family photos I'd like to display on the walls behind the sofas and I'd like a mirror in there (over currently non-existent mantle.

I am clueless! Help much appreciated.

Could you choose a highlight colour for accessories etc. Perhaps a strong turquoise or maybe a bright green/yellow. You could potentially have shutters rather than blinds. I'm not a fan of pretend curtains to be honest. Do you want luxurious, clean and uncluttered, what kind of vibe does the rest of your house have?

I'm not keen in shutters tbh. I really want a cozy feel to the room as we have a large kitchen / dining / family room too, so the sitting room will be mostly for evenings. I am thinking that as it is north facing I should embrace the low light and go for dark, snug type style???

Have you looked on Pinterest too - you can often cherry pick lots of looks you love and then whittle down what you feel will work with the room light and size etc .
Recently - I allotted myself 20 mins to pin as many pics that I instantly like - then I spend the next 40 mins going over why I liked them - and how I could use ideas from - in that hour I could easily see what my style was as it became apparent pretty quickly! This might help you too - hone the inner Home maker in you !! You might find that you can do it yourself that way ! (But it's also good to know there's professional peeps online out there too who can help if you need them ! )
