sold wood table?

I've just invested in a solid pine table, it's huge and has 4 lovely leather high back chairs. It hasn't been waxed or stained and now I'm freaking out and we can't even eat at it as I haven't a clue how to protect it.

Any ideas? I want to stain iy darker as it's natural pine atm, can I wax over a stain and will that protect it from water marks? TiA

I use a wax on mine and it seems okay, although we do use table mats when eating. When I say I use a wax, it maybe gets done once or twice per year [embarrassed].
