Rustic dining table with modern chairs...tell me they're nice!

We have decided on a rustic dining table for our kitchen diner. We are going to go for this one www.neptune.com/furniture/dining/tables/suffolk/suffolk-extending-table/

The thinking was that we want somewhere for our kids to be able to do homework, arts and crafts and meals in a relaxed environment.

We have just decided on chairs. I didn't want to go too rustic as our house is fairly modern and so I wanted something comfortable but contemporary to "lift" the diner area so that it doesn't look too farmhousey (I love the farmhouse look, but our house is not that kind of house). So after much deliberation, we have gone for these in leather...

While I didn't want to get a matching table and chairs set, this lot has cost me an absolute packet and I'm fretting about whether or not they will look good together. They've all been ordered so hopefully they will. I'm on here shamelessly looking for reassurance! What do you think?

Hmmm
I'm not sure they do match
I would of thought a tolix style modern chair would be better as the table is french style

I'm not sure exactly which chairs you have chosen as loads come up on that link. I'm not sure I'd have put any with that table.
I'd probably have gone for something more like Blackeyez suggested.

Crocodopolis · 08/05/2015 09:12

It will look great. Money well spent and you will have years of enjoyment from your eclectic approach.

PrimroseEverdeen · 08/05/2015 09:21

Good choice of table. I have a similar one from Neptune and love it!

BunnyLebowski · 08/05/2015 09:22

The table is lovely.

The chairs.........aren't.

Devora · 08/05/2015 14:18

Which chair is it?

LostAtTheFair · 08/05/2015 21:27

It's the Adelaide chair. Am sad that you don't seem to like them but IMHO they are much much nicer than those tolix chairs which Blackeyz suggested - they are really really not a style that I like. Well as I said in the OP, I have committed to both the chairs and the table and hopefully they will look nice as I will have spent thousands!

No they don't work together.

LostAtTheFair · 08/05/2015 21:35

Ok thanks for your opinion. Not the reassurance I was looking for but appreciate the time taken to post

There's loads of Adelaide chairs. Which specific one have you bought?

pictish · 08/05/2015 21:36

There are 22 styles of Adelaide chair.

tryingtocatchthewind · 08/05/2015 21:36

Best not to ask if you've already committed, not much you can do about it now. Just be happy with your decision

HeyDuggee · 08/05/2015 21:37

Sorry but that looks horrid together - lovely separately. If you want to mix rustic with modern, you can't paint the rustic wood. It will inevitably give off the Annie Sloan/f&b shabby chic vibe.

Quick google, what about something like this rustic table?

I'd look for solid oak (no paint) table. Criterion auction if you're near London also sell lovely antique solid tables time to time (get auction alerts sent you every Friday for Monday bidding) for sometimes cheaper than ikea stuff.

LostAtTheFair · 08/05/2015 21:42

Yes as I said in the OP I was looking for reassurance, so perhaps a mistake to have posted at all. I did have a wobble after I purchased them (hence the post), but actually reading the criticism of them has made me settle in my opinion that they will work in the context of my house. They are lovely in real life and also incredibly comfortable - the tolix is really not my cup of tea (I don't want to hurt anyone who has them by going into more detail iyswim)

It's the swivel one with a leather grey seat (that option isn't pictured)

pictish · 08/05/2015 21:55

There are 6 Adelaid chairs with swivel functions. It's like Where's Wally in here.

I get the look you're going for. If I was doing it, I would have chosen the same table, but with brightly coloured perspex chairs something along these lines Is that the kind of modern fused with traditional you were thinking of?
If so then I think you'll be OK with the Adelaide. I would maybe have questioned the swivel element as they can be rather office-y but on the other hand they are great for moving around, so if your children are bunching together for an activity they'll come into their own then.
Have faith in your choice. Each to their own, so not everyone will like it :-) and you can always add some funky table accessories (Alessi style, if you like that sort of thing) to tie in the table to the modern chairs.

LostAtTheFair · 08/05/2015 22:24

Thanks Mittens. You are spot on

OP posts:
Blackeyez09 · 08/05/2015 22:32

Yes mittens those chairs are nice

Sorry lostatthefair just you asked for our opinions... probably not a good idea as you've already bought them

Just enjoy them everyone has there own style to be honest it doesn't matter what we think for example I have a similar table from the shabby chic range and bought these chairs to go

www.shabbychic.com/furniture/dining-room/darcy-chair.html#.VU0rN9m9LCQ

very different!

pinkje · 08/05/2015 22:47

I think they'll look lovely. We had Bo Concept chairs before, painted rather than leather, and they didn't stand up too well to the children! Leather will be a good option.

Post a picture when you've got them please.

HeyDuggee · 09/05/2015 12:28

But they haven't been delivered yet, so you can cancel the chairs much easier than once you get them. I'm really sorry but there's a reason for your wobble. Print both out, cut them out and hold them up against your space - unless your house is a bizarre mishmash of styles that works (but then you wouldn't be doubting yourself) - it is going to clash.
