Help needed please, just bought a new house and in the long process of decorating. We are going for wooden flooring in the living area and was looking at White painted skirting boards and white painted doors but have been told I should go for brown PVC skirting boards with stained brown doors instead. What would you wise DIYers do?

Thanks for the quick reply crumpet. So do you think doors painted with satinwood are better to go with wooden floor? As you can tell first time decorating??

I have white, and doors which match the floor (oak) . I would have been happy with white doors though...I'm not a fan of coloured painwork

I happen to have wooden floors, painted skirting and stained doors.

It is ultimately a matter of personal taste- most of my skirting is white, some is coloured. Have a look at house websites, Pinterest, and get a feel for what you like.

But please do avoid the plastic boards Smile

Actually pvc skirting boards have come a long way since they were first introduced, there is no shine in them as they are a Matt finish, some even have a wood grain effect and many have a section built into them that can accommodate cabling. We are seriously considering white ones in our renovation
