Colours for lounge...no idea !!

Hi,
Tomorrow we are buying paint for the lounge (currently buttercup yellow) and I thought I wanted a soft dove grey but worried it might look cold in our quite dark lounge.

We can't really afford to change sofas.....one conker borns leather and one aubergine velvet type (see picture).

I had decided to buy a new sofa in a beige/grey from Next (see picture) which kind of gave me the Danish/Nordic feel I was after but DH says we can't just get rid of the perfectly good aubergine sofa.

Therefore, does anyone have a palette to go with the sofas? What colour paint and what curtains? There is a really limited selection of ready made curtains about at the moment. Not sure we can afford to have them made.

We have dark mango wood furniture so want as light a scheme as possible.

I can find nothing on Pinterest that encompasses what I want.

You'll be surprised how warm grey can look.

We have a dark living room - pale soft Grey looks fresh and light in the light and warmer and cosy at night.

Go with a colour you like and that works with your furniture and use good lighting to make it all work

And if you don't like it, you only need to paint over it

Thanks Saturday. Don't suppose you remember the make and name of your grey?

I have homebase stone in our living room, greyish/beige sofas, goes really well, the stone is warm toned without being to dark or overpowering.

Sorry, don't remember which paint it was. Was ages ago! Could do with a fresh coat actually

Farrow and Ball elephant's breath has a purple tone to it

But you could end up with it looking taupe i.e. more brown than grey with EB. If that isn't what you're aiming for, it will bug you.

Thanks everyone. DH off to b and q to get tester pots first. We never get testers so this time we will and then we can make sure it's the colour we really want.

Good idea

Make sure you do big squares and in different bits of the room (ie in light and dark places)

I was going to paint them onto A4 sheets and hang on the walls
