I m weighing up runner vs stairs. However it's emerging that dd may be allergic to the cat , I've just removed a rug and it was so full of cat hair, and I am thinking the runner would end up the same. But I m concerned about safety. Our stairs have been bare for a few years now with no probs but the middle bit isn't painted (in anticipation of a runner) . I also remembering falling in my parents loft stairs as a child and it hurt!
Please help me make a decision!

we have quite steep cottage stairs and my DH has just painted them. I really like them like this. We have done the banisters and treads in an off white and then all the risers different pale shades left over from painting the rest of the house - it looks great, and has made our narrow hallway much brighter. If you google painted stairs there are lots of ideas - even down to painting 'oriental runners' on to the treads which looks great. Our stairs are so steep that no matter what we do we have to tread a bit carefully. If I was going to have a runner I would go for Roger Oates - they are beautiful if a bit pricey!

I ve been looking at non slip varnish to go on top? I,have chosen a quirky tess runner but I suspect my ex may be about to instigate divorce to force a house sale and I am loathe to spend 1,500 on a runner if we might move in a few years, better on a holiday! I was going to paint each riser a f&b grey to match the lamding and bedroom floors. Just worried about dd and her little friends charging up and down!

Love the different colours ,,will remember that for next house!
