Help me choose a floor to go with this wallpaper

Me and DH are moving into a new build home soon and we have to decide on flooring this week and pay for it.

We have chosen to go against the grain and have fallen in love with big suramic tiles after looking in some show homes. And have decided to have these tiles throughout the downstairs.

In the kitchen hallway and toilet we have chosen a medium grey colour.

However in the lounge and dining room (they flow into one another) I have decided we need a different colour. I love grey but I feel the lounge would look good with a more nutral colour.

I have picked out the wallpaper (see pic) it has a slight glitter sheen to it so the pattern stands out a bit but I'm having trouble choosing the flooring.

It's between a beige colour (pic 1 it appears slightly darker in this picture due to not much natural light)
Or
A slightly off white colour.

The furnature that will be in this room is very dark black sofa and black tv unit. So I plan on getting some lovely wall art cushions and curtains with a few gold (not harsh gold) accents

Any advice will be great fully received.

how about some white shag pile carpet?

Twighlightsparkle2015 · 22/03/2015 10:58

Thanks for your reply Zinxie unfortunately that's not a option as we had that throughout our house when we moved in and within 6 months we have to have it all taken out due to our dog. And in the long term we are looking at 1/2 puppies.

It's a shame as I love a light coloured carpet

Is there underfloor heating? I really think without that tiled floors in your living room could be a huge mistake. Do please bear in mind that anything you drop is likely to smash and should anything heavy get dropped it could also damage the tiles.

If you have dogs it will be a total pain in the ass to keep the tiles clean and shiny, especially if you are going for a high gloss finish. It will also be noisy (we've had dogs so the noise on tiles and on laminate can be bad). Can your dog even cope with walking on those tiled floors in your pics?

If I were you I would seriously consider putting Karndean or Amtico down instead. Warm underfoot, good sound damping, easy to clean and non slip.

All those pale, shiny finishes reflect light and make a show home look big and luxurious. The reality in a real life home can be somewhat different.

I have two dogs and two cats and I've a very light off white/cream carpet. Mud hovers up very easily and I shampoo twice a year. It's not that bad having carpet. Although I wouldn't have it in a dining room.
All tiles is going to feel quite cold, you'll need rugs at a minimum.

I do not think it is wise to base your flooring on wallpaper, I would choose the flooring first.

mrsgiggle · 23/03/2015 17:19

I love that wallpaper, where is it from? I think tiles in a living room would be cold.

blueberrypie0112 · 23/03/2015 17:52

dark cherry wood?

blueberrypie0112 · 23/03/2015 17:56

I think it is ok to choose your floor based on wallpaper. Everyone have inspiration. I personally think wood floor would go well with it.

Thanks for all the replys, have given us something to consider.

I am in love with the flooring but you lot have said the practical side of things. We all suffer from hot feet so it wouldn't bother us to be honest. I think cleaning will be a pain.

Mrsgiggle I originally saw it in B&Q but you can also get it online, it's called Kensington and the colour is taupe.

If you insist using tiles, I would use the same one near your stairs so it will flow nicelythough your house. Or cream color that is on the wallpaper you picked out

Can just see all the sweaty footprints on that high gloss floor! Grin Unless you all have slippers with a fabric sole and glide around polishing it up at the same time.

I saw these on groupon in the week and thought these would work a treat!

I wonder if they come in small dog paw size
