What colour curtains with aubergine couches?

Bambambini · 20/03/2015 00:24

Just bought new aubergine couches and struggling with finishing off the room. Don't want to go too down the purple route. Carpet An oatmeal colour. Walls are off white but will probably paint them a slightly darker colour like antique cream. Thinking of taupe or mink colour curtains to tone it down a bit. The room is quite big long rectangle and fairly dark.

Any suggestions or ideas welcome as don't want to spend money and then not like the result.

Wish I could just get in a designer as it's giving me a headache!

taupe sound good with eggplant/aubergine color

NotMrsTumble · 20/03/2015 13:09

Grey? (propper dark grey, not side silver)

NotMrsTumble · 20/03/2015 13:10

Side? Damn autocorrect added a word.

Gold and muted light leafy greens look lovely with aubergine.

Sticking with the beige would work, too, so long as you have a room that doesn't look dismal in those shades.

MuttonCadet · 20/03/2015 13:12

I'd go silver grey, but maybe not with beige (helpful)

ImperialBlether · 20/03/2015 13:17

I agree - grey curtains but they wouldn't go with beige carpets.

I just bought a deep plum sofa and have chosen curtains from asda. They are chevron curtains and they come in grey or beige. I bought both to try them and I think either looks good depending on your wall colour. They were only forty pounds for 90 x 90.

I want a deep plum sofa!

Karbea · 20/03/2015 19:00

What style is your room? Sofa? Do you like modern, patterns etc?

this fabric would make lovely curtains, you could pick up the lime in cushions, frames etc.

As well as lime if you didn't like that teal would be nice.

Karbea · 20/03/2015 19:06

If you went down those routes then Celtic forest 6 (dulux) would be a nice paint choice.

rockybalboa · 20/03/2015 19:16

A sort of pale green might work?

yomellamoHelly · 20/03/2015 19:26

I think taupe would look quite sophisticated. Used to have a grassy green with our purple bedroom, but didn't work in north-facing light so have omitted this and upped the creamy / naturals / taupey content.
We also have a purple sofa downstairs and have gone for orange with it (also north-facing). (I love it, but that might not be everyone's cup of tea!)

DownAtFraggleRock · 20/03/2015 19:29

I'd be inclined to go for cream

TynesideBlonde · 20/03/2015 19:51

Dark grey.

TiffanyToothache · 20/03/2015 19:58

Lime green or turquoise (but I like bright colours!)

Bambambini · 20/03/2015 20:34

Tron - thanks, some nice (and cheap) curtains on that site.
adding a little green to the room could work (love the wimbledon colours). It's more classic than funky and quite dark and long so need light walls.

Forgot I could take curtians back so could at least try some first.

Mustard.

GraysAnalogy · 20/03/2015 20:38

Grey

Bambambini · 20/03/2015 23:56

Temp curtains up. Added photo to make it easier. I thought a light mink. Have seen some nice light purple ones but love my red and green poopy painting and am trying to keep it.
