Wallpaper choices - tasteful or tacky?

We've finally decided to replace the wallpaper in our bedroom to move away from the interesting decorative choices of the previous owners (easier said than done, not looking forward to steaming off the vinyl...)

I love this wallpaper for one wall m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/store/john-lewis-persia-wallpaper/p1659145?sku=233918786&colour=Indian+Blue&isd2c=false&un_jtt_v_dummy=yes#page_loaded but DH isn't too sure. We've got this bedm.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-kerala-bedroom-furniture/p31465#page_loaded un which would be up against the wall, and cream curtains. Carpet is dark brown - not our choice, but in too good condition to justify replacing.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Apologies for the awful links.

i like it, but depends on brown shade of carpet

StressheadMcGee · 19/03/2015 22:12

Thanks Kilmuir. It's quite hard to describe, I'd say that the carpet is dark, chocolaty brown, with quite a warm tone, if that makes sense?

I'd be careful in case it looked too dark - maybe feature wall rather than every wall, or maybe upto a picture rail (if you live in a period property) and white above?

I really like the wallpaper, but would also worry about the room being too dark. Big pale killim rug over your carpet?

The first one reminds me of a souk i stayed in in Morocco - it was a beautiful and warm colour scheme also with some deep browns (leather and wood) and burnt oranges.. Can't say if that's your style of course but could be a lovely idea for a thene for the room with that paper

wowfudge · 19/03/2015 23:57

I like the paper - what about the mocha colour way instead of the blue? Or would that not be the look you want? I'd be concerned that overall it would be too dark with the blue and you'll end up with the room feeling closed in.

Thanks all, all very useful! It is a period house, so nice high ceilings. Unfortunately the picture rails were taken out (in the 1980s we think, along with the fireplaces and chimney breasts) but I'd like to reinstate them. I think it's look good just on one wall up to the picture rail. Thanks for helping me think it through!
