In bathroom, very shiny, hard, washable

I'm wanting to paint over it. I like the finish as its so easy to clean

Any ideas would be great

Eggshell , or possibly even gloss

The tricky bit is knowing whether it's oil based or water based. How long ago was it painted? is there any area where it gets much less light - if so has the paint yellowed there at all?

Looks like eggshell to me.

Painted aprox 3 years ago. No windows in the bathroom. The walls are all the same colour.

Sorry if I am being stupid, the only paint I have ever used is Matt emulsion for my walls.

It feels cold and almost plastic like to touch.

Vinyl silk - that's what we have in the bathroom. Slightly shiny

I'd say eggshell, looks too shiny for silk emulsion. Eggshell is quite commonly recommended for bathroom walls as it's very wipeable and water resistant compared with emulsion. Could be gloss which is even shinier but that would be unusual on a wall.

Still can't tell you whether it's oil based or water based sorry, water based (aka acrylic eggshell) probably a bit more likely given it was only 3 yrs ago. also water based doesn't yellow in non sunlit areas whereas oil based does.

so I'd go with water based eggshell.
