Window seats and radiators.....

Hi all,

We have a long radiator beneath our dining room bay window. The window would really lend itself to a built-in window seat, but would I then need to remove the radiator? Or is there a window seat solution that would allow the radiator to remain in place?

Bay window seats can be made to have radiator covers built into them.

You can have a metal mesh section at the back of the window seat (above the radiator) to allow the hot air out upwards. The window seat cushion sits in front of the metal mesh. This way you can have storage in the window seat, in front of the radiator.

Or the front of the window seat can be mesh/trellis/slats so the heat comes out the front of the window seat. However that means no storage in the window seat.

Thanks both. Where on earth to I begin to source? Would a regular carpenter be able to do this or are there such people as window seat makers?

Regular carpenter should be able to make this no trouble, unless you want something particularly fancy.

For the grille, have a look here
