Thoughts & experiences on M&S furniture

We will be re-locating back to the UK in a few months time and due to excessive shipping costs & time delays etc etc will be buying new furniture on our arrival initially for a rental property which will likely be unfurnished (although would take a furnished one if we could get one).

Just the basics like beds, sofa, dining set etc although when you think about it there are a lot of pieces you need just for the basics.

Anyway I am researching in advance to save time and have a shopping list saved on IKEA but wondered about M&S too as would be better to have them deliver and set up as I see they do some for items.

So in general is M&S furniture OK and worth the price?

Thanks

We had m and s sofas a while back and have replaced with John Lewis. Very similar quality and many retailers use the same factories. With IKEA at least you know exactly what to expect! Next furniture looks pretty good in rl too.

Our M and S beds and wardrobes are excellent. Have a couple of dining chairs which are fine too.

Our m&s sofa and love seat are lovely and if it wasn't for the cats shredding the bottoms of them they'd be looking almost brand new after 5 yrs of use (but, we only just had DD so it's just been the two of us using them). They still took 8 weeks or so to be ready though so may not be right if you're looking for ready to deliver ones.

I have furniture from m&s. It is good quality. I also have furniture from John Lewis. I prefer the JL furniture. It is more stylish and was actually cheaper than M&S.
I have also recently bought furniture from Made.com and I've been really impressed with it.

thanks for all the replies, hmm yes will need to think about lead times for the sofa & chairs, I hadn't thought about that - might have to be IKEA for those items and pay them to deliver or order now and have them stored somewhere, more thought needed on this one, good job we have several months to decide

Will check out JL, been out of the UK so long have forgotten about a lot of the shops/options and I am sure there are new ones I am not even aware of

made.com looks fab

OK back after yet more interneting ... so seems JL have some 7 day delivery sofas and sofas & stuff do too so we have some options, whew was worried we would be sitting on the floor for 6-8 weeks

sounds grand to buy all new all at once but actually a bit stressful rather than enjoyable and worried about getting the wrong things through rushing so appreciate any help on MN

Glad you've gone for JL. Just got rid of an M&S sofa that was the most uncomfortable one I've ever had - bought on Ebay so not too costly a mistake, thankfully.

Swedish thanks will steer clear then. DH will be over in April so hoping to send him to test a few out then. I don't mind buying most furniture online but sofas are different, so many are not high enough at the back, or have cushions that slide off etc. Nothing worse than an annoying uncomfortable sofa.
