Looking for a shade of white not too creamy

Hi, I'm looking for a white paint to do the whole house in. I'm really not keen on anything with yellow/ cream undertones. Would rather not do brilliant white as I think it might be a bit harsh. Looking for a soft, matt white with an almost powdery/chalky look, if that makes any sense?!

Dulux just walnut perhaps....

LoveVintage · 25/02/2015 17:29

Craig & Rose Chalk White is a nice soft white.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 25/02/2015 17:41

Dulux jasmine white... Still bright and fresh/ airy looking but not as harsh as bright white. Just used it on our dark gloomy hallway and it looks lovely!

Hi MillyMollyMandy - does the Jasmine White have any undertones? Our sitting room has been painted a shade of white by previous owners and it's got a very distinct green hue to it - not keen!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Just googled soft white paint and found a rec for Dulux Trade Supermatt White. Has anyone used this?

Doesn't have any noticeable undertones - just seems like a pure white but less harsh/ bright. Looks like a true brilliant white until next to something else that is pure white iyswim? Don't be put off by the picture on the label which seems to have a hint of yellow/ cream as I found that to be very different to the actual colour

Farrow and Ball All White is a gorgeous soft white. I've used Dulux Jasmine White a lot and whilst I love it there is definitely some yellow in it, it's really noticeable against brilliant white IMO.

ChablisTyrant · 26/02/2015 03:01

Usually on these posts everyone recommends dulux timeless white. I really like it. What hue do you want it to have? Anything with a blueish edge looks severe and cold.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 26/02/2015 10:45

Petit: i guess it depends on where you use it. Our hallway was very dark before so maybe that affected the final colour? Heard lots of good things about timeless white, but not tried it myself

Crown Stone White is fab. Also a fan of Dulux Timeless

Thanks for the comments.

I will definitely take a look at the Dulux Jasmine White.

The Farrow and Ball all white sounds lovely. My decorator is a bit sniffy about F&B and says it doesn't last as long as Dulux - but he has a trade deal with D so obviously, there's something in it for him! I'm wondering if I could buy a sample and get it colour matched.

I'm not sure about hues. I know most whites have some kind of undertone but I'd like to steer away from yellow/blue/green hints. The closest I can get to pure white without it being too eye popping/harsh is what I want.

I have a load of testers at the moment and Timeless and Jasmine White are both 'soft whites' without yellow undertones.

Crown Milk White, I've had it throughout my house for years and get lots of people asking what colour it is. They also do a Cream White, but as you op suggested, too creamy!

CynthiaDelgado · 26/02/2015 11:37

We are using farrow and ball strong white at the moment. We have colour matched though with johnsons. It's a lovely colour though. Also like timeless.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 26/02/2015 11:39

Yes we had Crown Milk White and it was lovely. Thanks for reminding me Lesley. Am about to repaint bedroom and that will be perfect.

LesleyKnopeFan · 26/02/2015 11:50

V welcome! Hope the painting goes well (at least with a whitish shade, you don't have to worry about your edges!)

bilbodog · 26/02/2015 12:57

I've been using Dulux DH White - seems to go with everything.

averythinline · 26/02/2015 13:01

I like crown milk white but think it has a yellow undertone... Would suggest sail white its whiter but not creamy...my mum has used deluxe trade white its a good white as well
B and q had offer on crown at the weekend...

peggyundercrackers · 26/02/2015 13:06

javierbademswife · 26/02/2015 13:46
