Am I as well getting cheap feather duvet to stick on top of my mattress rather than fork out for expensive topper?

I did for a couple of years but it was a synthetic not feather duvet. Made a big difference to an old mattress.

Was the synthetic duvet quite hot? I'm thinking feather coz I overheat at night. Love my feather duvet and pillows!

Not really, I'm normally a total feather person, but it was an old, very cheap one which was left in my house when ex BF moved out years earlier and had been on the spare bed. I would think a feather one would go very flat and thin very quickly used as a topper, plus you might get the sharp ends sticking in you like you do with freather pillows.

I did this before we got a new mattress. Wish I had done it sooner. I now have a quilt on top of my mattress. It's a synthetic one and it hasn't made me hot. I have cotton sheets though so maybe that helps?

It's a sainsburys 15tog one that was on offer for £10-15 I just shake it and turn it when I change the sheets each week and once a month I wash it and tumble dry it.

I can't comment on normal mattress toppers though as I my ever used a memory foam one which did make me very hot and uncomfortable.

Ok yes I think I'll go with a cheap synthetic one at first and try it. At around a tenner it's well worth a go!

I paid around £35 for a memory foam topper from Amazon, money very well spent. We had one from Bensons for beds before that (lot more expensive) but didn't do much good as it wasn't thick enough. I would say you need at least 2.5 inches to really be worth your while so quilt wouldn't really do much

^^ I am in a lot of pain daily though and having the topper helps me be more comfortable, maybe if you aren't a quilt would be enough

We weren't doing it for pain reasons, it was really just that our mattress was old and worn out and you could feel the springs, it got us a couple more years out of it.
