Kitchen tile colour help

Looking for inspiration for tile colour for our kitchen. Was hoping we would be able to put a new kitchen in but that idea has been decided against as we don't think we'll be I the house long enough to make it worthwhile, so thinking a change to the (awful) dated cream tiles might make me love the kitchen a bit more. The units are a cream colour with brushed metal handles (thinking these could be changed) so quite neutral, however the work tops are a speckled green/brown/black colour (hopefully photos attached). As far as accent colours go, we have a red kitchenaid and red toaster etc. I prefer slightly retro colours: teal, mustard, line green, red but cannot for the life in me find a scheme I like that goes with the units and work top.
The current tiles are a mottled cream colour (similar to the units) with occasional tiles featuring strawberries/leaves etc (90s finest!!), walls are a duck egg colour which I'm not too fond of either!
1970s bungalow, decent light throughout, however kitchen north facing and small in comparison to other rooms.
Any advice/ideas greatly appreciated as I'm really struggling! TIA

Metro tiles picking out one of the colours in the worktop? Or another style of tiles in one of those colours. Even white or cream would would work.

It's going to be tricky with that worktop. I also like metro tiles, white ones are inexpensive, and they could look nice with that worktop if you go for dark grey grout and white metro tiles.

I would paint the walls white too, to lighten everything up a bit.
