We're thinking of getting a grey sofa and a red checked with grey snuggle chair however our carpet is brown and in need of replacing and were unsure what colour to go with.
Pale colours aren't an option and I don't like the idea of red.

Red carpet is not good because it is overwhelming and dark. Dark carpets are good for vast rooms but I am afraid you need light coloured ones for small rooms and pastels are in. I would put down laminate and have rugs ...But
If you have a plain sofa you can have a patterned carpet. There are some beautiful small printed patterned ones about. If it was me I would abandon the pink chair and buy a Grey sofa, a chair with mainly grey in it and a carpet that had a grey and mauve pattern. On the sofa I would have some mauve and grey check cushions. In the windows I would have very pale grey curtains with about 13 cm of mauve shiny material sewn at the bottom. Dotted about I would have some silver candlestick ( from IKEA) with mauve candles and some mirrored coasters.
Mirrors make rooms look larger. So I would probably have a large mirror in a shiny silver frame. Shiny stuff is cheerful and reflects the light. K

Thanks holeinmyheart were lucky it is a vast room that look out on to the garden so was just going to put Roman ups and its a huge bay that can fit a sofa / chair in.
I hadn't thought of the mauve colour and that could work quite well Grin
Pale carpet is not the best option as the two big dogs often come in the room and I find a darker shade hides things.
Laminate we have it in our bedroom and it makes the room feel cold so I'm abit unsure as to wether it would do the same in the lounge.

There are some lovely mauve, taupe and grey patterned carpets about. Grey and mauve go very well together but they need to be a warm shade of grey.
I would have Laminate or real wood downstairs for cleanliness and carpets upstairs for warmth and insulation.
Mauve, Grey, white ( small areas) with Silver accessories look good. Plus some very pale green.
Best of luck.
