wall hung toilets?

I am getting my bathroom redone and looking at wall hung toilets and thinking... Wwwhhhhhaaat? Surely they are going to fall down when children inevitably bash them around too much or stand on them to reach something? Same with wall hung sinks.

Does anyone have these? What do you think?

Don't they hang from a frame which is built into the wall? They'd be a safety hazard and no one would have them otherwise.

And stop the kids from standing on the loo!

Yes, I am gradually realising they must be safe or they wouldn't sell them. None of us are morbidly obese so we don't need specially strengthened amenities... Maybe it would be okay.

Would it look like a hotel or would it look nice?

I really wanted one but our builder was dead against it. Something to do with the U bend and access stopped listening when he said no. I'd check with your plumber before ordering.

I think the toilets might have a weight limit.

Wall hung toilet = you can mop under the toilet. What's not to love?

Bog standard haha! in Europe, I have never heard of or encountered any issues with toilets of sinks falling off walls. And I am pretty sure that floor mounted toilets drain into the wall at 90 degrees, just like wall hung ones.

Yes they are built into a frame, which also means it sticks out from the wall, if that makes sense.

If the loo can take an adult's weight, sitting, it can take a child's weight, standing.

We are installing a wall hung toilet in our new downstairs toilet in our extension. We have has to put a false wall in to house the frame which holds the toilet up.

And Yy, it's so we can mop under the toilet.

Oh, and we've been able to choose the height of the seat, which is great as I'm tall.

We have one, there is a frame inside the walk, that you can't see.

The advantage is the room feels bigger, because you can see more floor space

I have put in several wall hung loos (with proper metal frame - see Grohe or Geberit) and basins. no problems with any of them. they're great, make the room look bigger (as you can see the whole floor) and much easier for cleaning.

To clarify, I'd stop kids from standing on loos so they don't break the toilet seats and also don't overreach and either knock things off or fall off themselves - not because of their weight on the loos!

Wow I got that! I have completely come round to the idea and we are having a wall hung loo now. The kids will be fine, I'll just threaten withdrawn of pocket money.

it is more tiresome when you have to mend the cistern, or fix a leak, or change it for a new one.

For maximum possible inconvenience, be sure to tile it all in.

I've got a very practically minded designer working on it but I will check access arrangements with her. I'm thinking some kind of panel in the top of the boxed-in panelled section.

Re access, the usual design is to have a large flush button panel in the front of the cistern boxing in, which removes to allow access to the cistern. However I would recommend also having a removable shelf across the top of the cistern box, so you can access from the top as well as the front.

We've always done this (the shelf is not screwed or glued in, just masticked so can be removed fairly easily if need be by cutting the mastic) though in fact none of our wall hung loos have ever gone wrong... yet!

Yup.

Mine have even been able to cope with people having sex on them. Several times. But, the actual toilet seat may then break, but the toilet is not falling off the wall even if two adults are shagging on them.

(not me and dh, I should add, none of us were involved in the shenangians of our tenants)
