Matching F & B paint ?

Hi,
I've searched but it just brings up really old threads.

Where's the best place to get F&B paint colour matched?

I've bought their paper so need to cut back costs a little on the paint.

B&q valspar paint...

I was going to go there as the bloke in B&Q said they could match, then I googled it and Ive heard mixed reviews though, is it ok then?

My DH had a paint 'matched' from their test card, it was a yellow, and it was brighter than the actual paint, not a lot, but it didn't look right. I think it depends on the colour really.

I've had a couple of attempts at colour matching using Dulux Trade and Johnstones. Both looked good in the tin but were slightly off on the walls. If you are dead set on an exact time then I would just use the F&B!

I've been to get some valspar testers today, just done a test patch so I'll see what it's like when it's dried. It's a huge through room so we really couldn't afford Farrow and Ball I don't think.

We go to a proper trade paint mixer and they can mix up dulux or Johnstone using recipes they have for all f and b paints. The only difference as far as I can see us that the original FB has a more chalky finish when dry. It's much cheaper.

Well the 'light blue' is a perfect match but the 'oval room blue' is a lot darker. So I'm going to go for fake F&B for one room and the real for the other room. So excited to paint it now!

Johnstones do a really good match for f&b ive just decorated a whole house in it.

Thanks. Now that the oval room blues been on the wall for a few days Im having a wobble that maybe it's too dark! We've decided to paint the front room first to see how it looks then do the back room - it's a through lounge.

I used to look at the painting threads and think God, why one Earth can't these people make a decision, I sooooooo understand it now ha.

You can never be sure to match a paint exactly as they use different base paints for a start which can affect the final colour, and unless you have the colour code then there's always a chance of it not being quite right. Matching systems can only guess the mix of colours and quantity used to make the final tint or tone, so getting just one of them wrong can make a huge difference eg if it looks too dark then there's likely to be an imbalance in the black content ie the machine "guessed" it wrong....

Pick off the Dulux (or whoevers) card in the first place, don't try to cheat it....
