Matching table lamps?

In a living room, do table lamps have to match or could I have a couple of different ones?

Different ones sound good. I think sometimes decor can look what I've been calling a bit 'matchy matchy' (not sure if I heard that or am making it up) and a room can end up looking like you bought all of the same colour furnishings from one DIY store.

That's what I thought too, I'm not really one for everything matching. I'd like to put a lamp with a bit of red in it against my cream wall and on the opposite end a cream lamp against the red wall.

No need to match.
