Skirting board/ woodwork darker than walls - has any one done this?

This is recommended on the f&b site as a way of making a room seem lighter and brighter. I can't find any examples of this though - has anyone done this and does it look ok? I think the main wall would be something like slipper satin with a slightly darker shade for the woodwork, in a small 1930's living/ dining area that's been knocked through with wood floors.
Thanks

We are currently doing up a house with white walls and grey woodwork and it looks great

oh good, thanks. I was thinking of shaded white which is greyish.
