Dark grey and white?

I have finally stopped waiting for input from dh and decided to decorate our bedroom and have fallen in love with a dark grey textured effect wallpaper from habitat (cut and paste not working on my iPad) with purple undertones. We have a large 1930s semi master bedroom which is South facing and can take the darkness I think. But do we paint bright White above the picture rail, or a lighter grey? Would white look too stark? And what about the woodwork? I'm going for a cosy, luxurious feel with deep purple accessories for a bit of colour.

Id like pure white. Finding the right shade of light grey could be a drama.

All things diy are a drama with us, so good point! Just had a vague idea in my head of painting ceiling and above picture rail in lovely soft grey but white would an easier option.

What about a greyish white? Might be less harsh.
