Cabin bed or stacking/pull out guest bed?

We're about to move our 4 year old into a larger room. It's a decent- sized double and we already have a wardrobe, chest of drawers etc in there.

We were originally thinking of buying a stacking/ pull out guest bed for that room (like John Lewis Woodstock design) to give us flexibility when guests come over or if he has sleepovers. However we're now wondering about a low cabin bed instead - one with drawers underneath - as you can never have too much storage and I think he'd quite like it.

Any experience or advice on either of these options?

It seems from threads on here that kids outgrow their cabin beds quickly.

What about the Hemnes daybed from IKEA? Single that pulls out to a double and has three underbed drawers too?

Ikea has a choice. Take a while to build but not difficult. Robust enough for every day use, and comfy enough for parents to share when required.

Thanks! I like the look of the hemnes - does anyone know how comfortable it is? How thick is the mattress?

ThinkIveBeenHacked what do you mean about outgrowing the cabin beds? I thought they were mostly a standard single size, so surely they physically fit an older child?

Interested to know before I set up cabin beds for my 4 year old twins!

Sorry, outgrowing in age terms rather than physically.....so the kids get to 8-10yo and dont want a cabin bed any.more.as they are seen as babyish.

We looked into the low ones with drawers. The ones we saw actually had less useable space underneath than a normal framed bed with a couple of decent wheeled drawers. With the cabin bed ones, the drawers were quite small and often only half as deep as the bed, so in effect you're wasting 50% of the space. We went for a mid sleeper style cabin bed with a little ladder, but that was all about storage space in his small room and we don't know when he will think it babyish. At the moment it's much cooler than his sister's bed!
