Dining room/Sauna - I need your help!

I have a good sized dining room which is boring the pants off me at the moment and we haven't made a real effort with.

My question is this, what do I do with the flooring? The room is currently carpeted in cream (loop) and the carpet and underlay is knackered so brining the whole room down really.

We have an natural oak table, oak side cabinet thingies and the chairs are the usual brown leather and oak ones (beginning to dislike).

Hubby wants hard flooring and I kinda agree but:

  1. we have amtico wood flooring in the hallway which is oaky as well
  2. there is a lot of wood in the room already (even if we have a cover on the table)

If we put in wood flooring, I am worried it will look like a sauna or the inside of a swiss cuckoo clock, but I cant think what else to do and I am not keen on carpet again. With where the room is, stone flooring would also look spazzy so I feel stuck. I am not sure about putting in a different colour wood floor from the hall, think it will look better if we continue the flooring throughout.

Any ideas?

Goldi
