What colour second sofa should I buy?

The walls are cream and there's quite a lot of medium brown wood - floor, fireplace and most of the furniture. There's a large (faded) cherry-red rug on the floor and some other red accents. The curtains and current sofa, both of which we need to keep for a few years but plan to replace eventually, are a sort of dull goldy-yellow (and grey, but that's dirt!)

In the long term, I think I'd like to get rid of the yellow (just the curtains and the shabby old sofa) which would leave brown and cream with red accents as the colour scheme, with bits of green from the houseplants. But I don't think I want a brown sofa (too dark with the floor), a cream one seems completely impractical with kids (don't want leather) and all the red sofas I can see aren't the right kind of red to go with the rug - they are mostly purpley reds. Would grey work? Or can you get teflon-coated sofas so I could go for cream?!

I'm mostly looking at M&S sofas because the old one is M&S and is still really comfortable after 10+ years.

Any ideas very welcome!
