Help with ceiling lights please?

We have a 1970s house with a lounge with two ceiling pendants. Ceilings are quite low, Dh is quite tall, I don't like seeing light bulbs.

We currently have this light shade, but I don't think it's quite right and could really do with some help on getting the right shade. Does anyone have any suggestions??

can you get rid of the pendants altogether and have wall lights / standard lamps instead?

We have a couple of standard lamps as well as the ceiling lights. Hadn't thought of wall lights...will have to ponder that. Although DH won't like the cost of getting someone to re-wire!
