Having difficulty deciding between a laminate (actually v nice, looks really like Limed Oak-we've already put it down in our playroom/laundryroom) & a PP carpet. Cost wise, the laminate is slightly less not least because DH can lay it. We will have to take off the skirting which will irritate the Joiner no end (BIL). Will also have to purchase a rug so that adds expense. Carpet's nice, but I want a v light colour so may not be just as practical in the long term. Also think for the older DDS room (9&7) I'd like a vintage-y feel & the laminate may work better (just gleaned from looking at catalogues/mags!). Help!!! DH going to make the decision if I can't v soon….

What do they think?

Sorry, I put that badly. But if you have 2 decent options and no strong feelings either way, why not let them choose?

It sounds to me like you want the laminate. Me, I'd go with a darker carpet. More comfortable for sitting on and warmer on the feet for midnight toilet trips.

I agree with Erin.

Comfortable room , warm, for children, much more important, IMO, than decoration trends.

If any of them are over the lounge or kitchen where you may be talking loudly when they're in bed, I would go for carpets for the soundproofing.

Thk you all..carpet is my preference I think. Actually thought of asking them tonight after I'd put thm to bed...
