Really big ceiling light that doesn't cost a fortune

Our bedroom has very high ceilings and a standard pendant looks ridiculous.
Initially I thought of a chandelier but the big ones are very expensive.
I think something white and modern would be a solution but I can't find anything. I'm looking for 1m diameter.
Any ideas?

I have the Ikea pedant and it's great.

crossandcrosser · 18/09/2014 05:54

They are all great choices, thanks so much.
I love the feather one especially the 'clean with a hairdryer but value wise the Ikea is perfect.
MissB, is yours in a bedroom?

If you wanted a chandelier style one then BHS have quite a good selection. Some are half price. Like this. However, none are as wide as you want.

crossandcrosser · 18/09/2014 11:17

Thanks MrsC sadly none of the BHS ones are big enough for the room.

There's a very large ikea one that looks like a giant ball of Daisy's.
(Am on phone so can't link properly).
Have always wanted one but my rooms/ceilings have never fitted one in.
From memory they are sub £100.

Dilligufdarling · 18/09/2014 11:22

Sorry - that's the same one that everyone else has told you about! Blush

kilmuir · 18/09/2014 11:24

My DD has the ikea daisy one, looks grear

justmuddlingalong · 18/09/2014 11:28

Bari 5 arm chandelier from Argos. Was £70 odd, I got it for £25ish. Looks fab.

strongandlong · 18/09/2014 11:32

Paper lanterns are a bargain option. I rather like them.

crossandcrosser · 18/09/2014 11:33

I think I'm sold on the Ikea one at £90. Does anyone know how much light it gives off?
Thanks very much for the suggestions.

What I would really love is a Lindsey Adelman chandelier, but $17,500 is slightly over budget Shock

crossandcrosser · 18/09/2014 11:47

If you can find me that for the Ikea price strong I'm sold Grin

Aren't they lovely? She does actually publish a few designs/instructions for building your own here but I'm struggling to find suppliers for the parts in the UK. Also - I don't have time and I'd probably electrocute myself and/or burn the house down.

MissBeehiving · 18/09/2014 19:03

It's in a barn entrance about 8ft from the ground, hung from a double height ceiling.

I would say that it gives off a good light for a bedroom - light enough but not too bright to be scary.

When it's on, it casts daisy like shadows on the walls which are very pretty.

soundevenfruity · 21/09/2014 12:17

Lindsey Adelman has instructions how to make hers (excluding handmade glass shades) on her website and there is a link to UK compatible set.

strongandlong · 21/09/2014 16:05

Ooh fruity! I hadn't spotted that grand brass have started doing a uk compatible kit. Thanks for pointing it out! I might have to go for that once we've got our new house a bit sorted.
