Painter/Decorator:reasonable price/cash only

Local painter has quoted £500.00 for painting stairwell (fairly high); two landings (bottom very small); skirting boards, including those on the stairs; door frames; downstairs radiator. We would provide the paint. He said he would take 4 days.

Seems fairly reasonable to me and seemed to know what he was talking about. Does this compare well or badly with other people's experiences.

My slight niggle is that he said he'd want cash or cash transfer upon completion. We don't use decorators etc a lot so I wondered if this was standard. Found him through Checkatrade.

I think £120 a day is about the norm, plus materials. Sounds fair, the instant payment thing is fairly normal too IMO. Sole traders do have problems getting paid.

We are having our hall, stairs and landing painted next week. Think it was about £600 (Another Bedroom on the quote too). Similar to yours but all the stair spindles sanded and painting too and newly plastered ceilings that need sealing before painting. So id say your quote sounds fine.

We've had lots of tradesmen in lately as re doing he whole house and that payment seems fine.

Sounds brilliant to me our hall/stairs is costing £1800!
Ours is very big though with very high ceilings, 3 landings, requires stripping & lining before painting, has 17doors, skirtings, dado, picture rail etc price inc. Dulux paint.
We've used our guy several times so know he'll do a brilliant job & it's a reasonable price.
