Anyone else got acres of knotty pine skirting?

Moved into a house where bare wood is a feature. I like the hardwood double glazing, but, on searching around for decorating inspiration, I'm realising I prefer white woodwork. Anyone managed to make a successful go of knotty pine skirting? Can't face painting it!

We have it upstairs and it's nice, so long as you're not into the "modern", grey all over effect so beloved of MNers. The bedrooms are bright colours, but it also works well with white or cream.

The stairs also have knotty pine cladding all the way up them and I'm on a very slow mission to eradicate most of that. Have done the same in the bathroom. It suits the house, as it's a cottagey 2 up 2 down, but it was just all a bit too much!

Not really into the modern grey thing. I love white, and more vintagey type decor, 60s colours.

Just struggling to find it very inspiring, if it was oak and less orange I'd like it a lot more. Did you consider staining it darker, or are you eradicating by painting over it?
