Coloured wooden handles?

Has anyone seen any nice, not too expensive wooden knobs or got any thrifty ideas on how to make/adapt some? I am looking for something like these...

Paint some plain wooden knobs using Plastikote? I did that once and they wore really well. Have a look on ebay too.
