I have two really old and crappy ikea chests of drawers and wanted to paint them but have just seen a lime waxed set online and now I want that too (fickle). Only problem is, they're laminate. Tell me it'll still work? Hmm

Just to add some extra thought to your plan

Have you seen chalk paint like Annie Sloans?

It can be painted on to most things and then you apply either a wax or varnish on the top to seal.

I've copied and pasted a paragraph which you might find interesting

Q. Can I paint my melamine or laminate furniture with Chalk Paint®?
A. There are many success stories from people who have painted their melamine or laminate furniture with Chalk Paint® decorative paint, including pieces from IKEA. A little bit of prep and some patience are needed. New IKEA pieces may be coated with a light oily film for packing and shipping purposes and this should be removed with a cloth moistened with mineral spirits. Lightly sand the melamine or laminate with fine grit sandpaper and dust off. Next, apply a thin first coat of paint, and let dry about 48 hours to encourage the paint to bond to the surface. After that, you can continue painting for your desired look.

Ooh thank you - I've got some, just did a wardrobe, will try it as I didn't know I could use on laminate. Smile

I do love lime wax though- any idea if it'd work? X

sorry I don't

You can dilute a tester pot of Annie Sloan paint, paint the melamine and wax it then it looks very similar to a lime wax finish. A small pot well diluted was enough for four chairs and a table.
