Decorating a through lounge/dining room

Hi, moving into a house with a lovely large through room. It's got a square archway that divides the room but it's very open and light.

How to decorate it? Do I need to make it 'flow'.?

Lounge has no chimney breast but dining room section does. I'm thinking of making a wall of the lounge section a feature wall with patterned wallpaper then the same wall paper on the chimney breast of the dining room section.

Will this look good or daft? I've googled 'how to decorate a through room' but it's comes up with nothing!

Thanks

Have a look at pintrest loads and losds of decorating ideas on there, I think the 2 walls being tbe same would not look daft at all.

Thanks, I've been on Pinterest though and I can't find anything under 'through room' or 'through lounge' etc. are there any other names for it, am I searching wrong ?

I think it depends on whether you want it to look like one big room, or whether you want to make a distinction between each section and their different uses.
(Not sure if that helps)

Ha. It's ok, I'm struggling to describe it too. I want it similar but different. Think I'll try this wallpaper idea to bring it together, sort of thing.

pinterest is heavily american-biased... try looking for 'family rooms' or 'living rooms' rather than 'through lounges'! Smile

I'll give that a go, I havnt tried family rooms thanks. The odd few that have come up have been huge American houses yeah, not really like my little terrace ha ha. Grin

Try "open plan" maybe.

we have a 7m long lounge which used to be 2 rooms, so has a boxed in rsj as the divide. our walls are a mixture of creams, purples and browns, with black and birch furniture. there's not one predominant colour, but they all blend well together.

just find some colours you like which blend well together and choose which wall to slap it on. depending on windows, light, furniture, curtains etc.
