A nice border! Please tell me there's such a thing?!!!

We've just bought a house that is unfortunately woodchipped all the way up the stairs, with gloss paint, and a horrible border on top.

We can't afford to have it taken down (there's woodchip everybloodywhere so we're having to prioritise rooms), so thinking painting it over in matt might help, and I wanted to remove the border, but - of course - you remove one and there's another underneath. And another! So there's no way we can without leaving some very obvious damage to the paper. I also don't like the effect of just painting over it. It just looks so obvious to me.

SO, we're going to need to go over it with a new one. Does anybody know of any nice ones? Please?! We're going very light colour for paint. Was thinking border in light background, quite happy, bright pattern - maybe blue or red or something?

Good lord, cannot believe I've just written this essay about BORDERS! Did not see that coming in life!

I think you're just going to have to resign yourself to the fact that your stairs look like they're in the nineties. Personally I'd paint over the lot even if it is still obviously there.

Reeeally?! I just think there's something so depressing and cheap, and make-do about a bloody painted over border! I don't know why I feel this so strongly, but god I do!
