Master bedroom ceiling lights

What kind of light do you have in your bedroom?

We always struggle with ceiling lights especially in bedrooms. We are about to decorate our new master bedroom. It's a generous room 15 foot square probably, and the ceiling height is 230cm, in a modern house. The overall style will be modern, we don't like fussy stuff and really don't like shabby chic! Probably a dark blue and white colour scheme.

Wandering round John Lewis I liked a biggish pendant but then realised it was £250 Shock (it was nice but not that nice). We also had a look round IKEA, but we always end up arguing in their lighting department ConfusedGrin

I have a plain white paper one from Ikea (Vate). Is never on though, we use the bedside lamps, glass leg and transparent/silver plexiglass shades.

Thanks Kiaora a suspect we will end up with something similar.

How about a big, shallow drum shade? You could put a diffuser in to cover the bulb but I guess that if you're in bed you'd have bedside lights on. I make lampshades but there are loads of gorgeous ones on www.notonthehighstreet.com and I imagine most sellers will make to specific dimensions if you need something that's not listed.

I agree with Georgiesgirl, we have a 60cm diameter drum shade in our bedroom which I made myself and I bought a diffuser from needcraft which is essentially a round piece of white PVC that sits in the bottom of it and means you don't have a bright light in your face when lying in bed!

We'll be getting a ceiling fan, they aren't cheap or particularly attractive but for the few weeks you use them every year they are worth it.
