What are Your DCs Bedrooms Like

Hi,

I am looking for inspiration for my DCs bedrooms. DD is 2 and DS is 4yrs. Am thinking of doing one wall in wallpaper and having the other walls in plain paint. Will I regret the wallpaper in a few years? Will avoid anything babyish.

Have been looking but struggling to find any wallpaper that is inspiring!

The carpets are pale grey. I would need to get new carpets too.

went into john lewis at lunchtime, saw some nice raspberry pink.purple.green star curtains so thought maybe raspberry pink feature wall rather than wallpaper!

Dds 5and 7 are getting a new room together soon as the smaller dds inherit their bedroom (lovely pale pink, satin bow dulux, I think) shabby chic style. I'm not very girly, and don't dress them too girly, so I let lose my inner princess on their bedroom!

However, dd2 is apparently a Tomboy, so we are compromising on this wallpaper on one wall

We will paint three walls a matching green I think.

Pricey, but my duvet covers do seem to last years; so if they last, it's not so bad... And the tomboy is ok with this.

On one of the spare walls I may put on a rainbow decal.

I expect we will use white furniture but not sure... By then, the budget will be blown...

You can get some fab blackboard paint now, how about painting one wall in that and letting them "decorate" that wall from there? You can also get "colouring in" wallpaper now which I think is a fab idea - I know some parents don't like though as the children may think they can do the same on all the walls in the house!!

Pinterest is great for decorating ideas.

DS (8) bedroom is painted milk white. There is old fashioned footy print wallpaper on the chimney breast (Cath Kidston). He has built in wardrobe with funky handles. IKEA dogs bum hooks on the back of the door. He has US uni and sports team pennants on the walls as well as various pics. Built in bookcase, beige carpet, star print rug, blue gingham curtains.

DD (5) room is also pained milk white. She has a butterfly decal going around the walls. Built in wardrobe with funky handles which is painted shocking pink inside. Brilliant Hollywood style mirror. Red gingham curtains, various pics, sheepskin rug.

2yo DD's room, which is somehow the biggest in the house, no idea how

Three walls white, one wall with a sort of mocha brown wallpaper with small white stars on, courtesy of the previous owners, but very nice. Uninspiring and unsurprisingly beigey-cream carpets like you see everywhere - not replacing them until potty training has been and gone! Dark brown blackout curtains. It actually all compliments each other very well and isn't too age specific.

It's brightened up considerably by some randomly placed Little Miss decal stickers (don't let a 2yo place the stickers...), a bright purple cotbed which is my best buy this year, some bright stripy duvet covers, and Ikea's awesome circus tent bed awning. Oh, and in pride of place is an amazing button picture of a pram that my friend makes.

To be honest it is more of an adult bedroom with some kids things in. Even when she was in the smaller nursery I didn't want to do anything too OTT - I'm sure that time will come when she is 9 and demands pink butterflies everywhere...

If I were you I would go for three plain walls and maybe one wallpaper wall, or just a plain colour everywhere and use decals to make it more child-like.

Dd and ds share. We built them L-shaped bunk beds which double as a fort/fire engine/den and the sides are painted with blackboard paint. We have the alcove and door to the airing cupboard wallpapered with 1970s paper that I had as a child, salvaged from the loft. It is a woodland wallpaper with badgers and owls and toadstools and tree houses and all sorts of lovely things. Walls are very pale green and they have vintage Sarah Kay, Holly Hobbie, Beatrix Potter, Wind in the Willows etc pictures, bedspreads, clock etc. It's v twee.
