feather / down pillows and duvets

I'm thinking of replacing my manmade ones of these with feather down as was convinced by having them in the spare room at a friend's. Are there any disadvantages to them? Where's good to get them for good prices? Thanks!

I have feather pillows - I much prefer them as you can "puff" them up and then sink into a puffy pillow at bedtime :-) We always have one manmade one underneath (to give a bit of support) and then a feather one on top. I don't have a feather duvet though. Our pillows come from M&S and they're really great - very happy with them.

Feather duvet is heaven ! We have just got a goose feather duvet and it's the best thing. Very puffy, comfy and warm.

I'm not a fan of feather pillows.

I might just go for a feather duvet to start and see from there. Are they machine washable usually? Thanks for the replies.

if you buy from John Lewis they guarantee the feathers are not plucked from live birds.

I have goose down duvets and pillows. Bliss! And you can wash pillows in a domestic washing machine ( only one at a time), dry in a tumble dryer and they are refreshed and as new. All mine are from John Lewis.

Oooh, not plucked from live animals would be great, and I've some John Lewis vouchers I've been struggling to find a use for too.
