Carpet or laminate?

What do people prefer in a lounge/dining room? I like carpet but I like to be cosy. Appreciate laminate is easier to clean etc. Doing the house up to sell so interested in general opinions.

We've just put in laminate and I have to admit that although wood dents and scratches I wouldn't have laminate again. Once its dented or scratched that's it. With wood you can resand it.

DH misses the carpet and says the hard floors are colder.

I wouldn't necessarily make my decision to buy a house on the flooring so I wouldn't worry too much.

We have laminate type flooring and it's great for the kids (potty training toddler!).

DH convinced me to have carpet when we moved in. Biggest regret. It is ruined. Completely wrecked by dogs and kids and no matter how much rug doctoring will not look good.
I'm too embarrassed to invite people over and can't afford to replace it.

Cheapest option is laminate and they do seem to look good nowadays. But worried about scratches from dogs.

But I wouldn't not buy a house because it had carpet!

Go with the cheapest option.

We do have laminate elsewhere in the house, but I agree with your hubby squirrel I find it cold!

Cheapest option is probably best though as we're not staying (although of course it'll still be done as nicely as possible!) Grin

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you're doing up to sell and you don't want to put in real wood then I'd go laminate but stage the house with lovely rugs. Laminate on its own looks and feels cold and unless its very high end can look cheap. Laminate with rugs will put the focus on the rugs and will look cosy and warm.

P3ppa my laminate was scratched within days and the animals slide all over it.
