Decorating a north facing childs bedroom- good colours?

DS2s bedroom is in serious need of decoration from the sludge colours that we had when we moved in.

It is a fairly light room mornings amd evenings and has a large chimney breast running through it. It's a good sized room but I'm stuck on good colours that won't date too easily and will last a few years before needing redone.

I've searched on pinterest and they usually are neutrals which I don't mind, but I'd like a bit more colour

How bright are you fancying? Best rooms ivee seen on Pinterest are grey, with white woodwork, then bright accessories - rug, curtains bed linen etc.

We light bright but probably not too bright. I do like greys and bright accessories but I can't find a grey that won't look too dark in there.

I would do just white, with white wood paint on any wood.

Then colour using accessories. Far easier as then you can do say light blue checked curtains, sheepskin rug, light blue bed covers, some artwork ( own photis enlarged or canvas kids can paint on in blue colours) and nice lamp for now. In a few years time it's then easier to change if they decide red or yellow is nicer
