Redecorating the dining room

Very excited as I am going to completely redecorate my dining room. Keeping my Plank dining table and chairs but everything else is going. I want to replace the carpet with wood flooring (anyone who thinks carpet in a dining room when you have children is a good idea must be mad) and would like a fairly neutral base colour on the walls with an accent colour. But what? Anyone got any colour ideas!?

I'm about to do mine - decorator booked. Mines quite a grand room (very high ceilings, ornate ceiling rose & coving, huge bay window) so I've gone for a pale grey on the walls, brilliant white on woodwork, ceiling rose & coving & a darkish red ceiling.
The red & grey go together well.
We are also getting rid of the ancient carpet & going for a wooden floor. All the furniture in the room is oak except for the piano which is mahogany.
I'm having red silk roman blinds & dark grey velvet curtains on the windows. We already have lots of red themed paintings for this room & I'm going to get a silver framed mirror.

Hello wonky. Are you worrying about which wood the floor is? Obviously you don't think wood floor + wood furniture = wood overkill :-) Will it matter if they aren't matchy-matchy? I'm leaning towards a very pale grey for the walls but don't know what other colour to introduce, although I tend to like blues and greens. Dithering. Yours sounds a bit opulent for my little room (low ceiling!) but very lovely.

I would go all white. Soft white walls and white woodwork ( not gloss!)

Then add some nice artwork in the green/ blues/ grey you like

Hmm, have children and the dining room is a high traffic area (you have to go through it to get from the lounge to the kitchen) so not sure white will stay white for very long! Sounds nice but not practical for us, sadly.

Like the idea of art in the colours I like though, thanks.

Wood paint.

Whites easier with kids tbh as easier to paint over. Although we seem to be the house of white with white walls/ white sofa/ white rug etc.. We have x2 toddlers as its clean still

I'm about to start the dining room as soon as the kitchen is finished. I'm going for white wainscoting (wooden panelling half way up the wall) and then a patterned wallpaper in greige tones on the top part. This is to transition the grey kitchen into the beige living room. No gloss anymore, its dated, eggshell or satin finish on woodwork. We're probably keeping the carpet (although I agree its stupid for a dining room) because it runs through to the living room with large double doors separating the two.

We had oak floors in our old house and they looked nice with the furniture so i'm happy to go with them again. I am toying with going with something a bit darker but I think i'll probably plump for oak again.
Our old house was very neutral as it was quite a dark room. This house has a much grander room with a lot more light so i can be more bold.

I second white, it would be very clean and fresh with a medium or dark wood floor

Also, I have mellow sage (crown) and its beautiful with wood, then you could use some cream accessories (vase of fresh flowers etc)

Another colour I love is mulberry silk (Dulux) very calming and modern.
