No one likes this room

It's our second reception room. Originally we used as a playroom then last few years I was working from home and it was my work room.

Now I want to use it as a room the kids will use for watching TV or playing in or when their friends are here...but they don't like it in there.

What can I do to make it appealing to them???

There is a TV on the wall. Plenty of storage for anything they want to put in there. A small sofa.

Bigger sofa? Lots of cushions?
Make the other reception room more boring
We have the same problem. Other than using the computer in the ex-playroom, it's hardly ever used. I've been thinking that maybe we should use it more as a family, for movie night etc.
Writing that down, it makes me think that it's quite a vulgar, first world problem, having a room that we don't really use or need.

I know what you mean about how it sounds when it's written down!

I admit that I don't want to sit in there either! Maybe cushions are a good place to start!

What's the lighting like? I find cosy lighting the key to whether I want to be in a room or not.

There's a central hanging light with a big papery shade.

If there is only one small sofa then there is your problem. Teens like to have a whole sofa to themselves!! (or is that just my dc?)

So, larger or more sofas / armchairs / beanbags whatever floats their boat.
Table lamps and floor lamps, not just one ceiling light (as that is a bit harsh and industrial no matter what shade is on it)

And then, ask them. Ask them to help you design / decorate 'their' space. Different colour on the walls? Cushions? Framed prints or posters?

Lucky dc! My two share the livingroom (and the sofas) with us, under duress!! :)

We have a massive beanbag in the lounge. Will drag that into the other room.

Yes, definitely smaller lamps, I never have the main lights on in our house. Smaller independent shops have some lovely ones.

If its for teens I'd suggest giving it an ikea makeover.

Mine like lots of seating too but the bottom line is that they will follow wherever the box is plugged in ;-)

Yes, maybe a little trip to IKEA would do the job!
