Spray painting a curtain pole?

I have two curtain poles (one wood and one metal) and I thought I might have a go at spray painting them.

Has anyone done this? How did you do it/which paint did you use?

I will be painting a pole with annie sloan paint - spray paint just seems to go everywhere! If the pole is not up you could probably take it outside and spray but otherwise normal brush would be ok

I spray painted a metal pole. It turned out fine. The paint on top of the pole wears off from the rings rubbing off it but its not really noticeable.
