Roman blinds with venetian blinds...

I have lovely ivory venetian blinds with tapes on my windows. But I find the windows still look 'naked'. My kids' bedroom windows are very wide (236 x 170) and unfortunately there are very deep radiators underneath so I would have to get short curtains or they wouldn't close. I am thinking of getting romans for these windows with the venetians. A plain colour so not too fussy. Any thoughts on this? I also have a strange bay window with a sofa in it that does not suit curtains (they would have to be ceiling hung and would not be able to close as sofa is in the way) I'm thinking of 3 neutral romans here too. One wide with a narrower one each side. It is a small secondary tv room.

I'm hoping it would just finish the windows nicely.

Has anyone done this, I've only seen a couple of example online which makes me wonder if my idea is off the wall! The roman would be fully open most of the time so darkness not a problem.

The Romans work out so much cheaper than curtains too which is a bonus.

I like Roman blinds and have them in my kitchen. I can't quite visualise them with venetian blinds though. In my head that seems overkill to me. I think I'd have one or the other.

Three roman blinds in the bay could look a bit cluttered unless it's quite big and can carry it off in which case yes.

Meant to also ask are the blinds you have atm quite plain? If so, maybe it's that that's making the window seem a bit 'naked'. Perhaps a bold design or colour would oomph things up?

They are plain ivory venetians but I can't change them. The romans I am thinking of putting in would be plain too maybe with a trim for the girl's room or a fine stripe for the boy's.

With regard to the bay window ones they would be just like a neutral band going along the top of the windows as I would keep them open. The sofa would be the same colour (beige)

I'm convinced it will look great but I'm wondering why no one else seems to do it!

If the blinds would not close and therefore be decorative only, what about creating a pelmet look with the fabric (a kind of very short and static fake blind), to give that finished off look.
It would use a lot less fabric/tape/cord etc than even the roman blinds and, with a rod running through the bottom hem would keep their shape and hang nicely.
I have done this before with some long narrow windows I had at my previous house. I simply made tab tops for the hanging rod to run through, lined them with a co-ordinating fabric, slipped a rod in the hem to stiffen them, and they were fab. Easy to take down, wash, and put back up too.

I've just found this which looks maybe roughly what you mean? I think personally I'd only do it if privacy into the window was an issue. But hey go for it! You sound sure and you could be onto something which everyone'll (annoyingly) copy

I can't sew at all so have to call in professionals. But a pelmet sounds like what it will look like.

There is a privacy issue with the bay so that is the reason we got the venetians in the first place. Clowns that is what I mean - thanks for the link. Difference is my tapes are ivory not brown, the window does not have different panes and my blind will be plain so it should look much better, not as fussy.
