A creative way to store books...

Any ideas?!

We live in a small one bed flat and have one bookcase in an alcove in the lounge. It has seven shelves but is completely full. I still have books at my parents house I'm desperate to get here. But where to store them?!

Most walls have pics on and as we rent we can't really put up any heavy duty shelves. We have a big coffee table, we could just pile books under there...

Any genius ideas please? Smile

Could you have shelves around doorways and over the top of doorways?

I would love a coffee table like the one on the Andrew Marr show. It has book storage along the bottom.

Could you put them around the head of the bed... I mean in bookcases, kind of like this?

Ikea Hemnes has a bridging unit like the one shown, and I think their Liatorp range too. (and possibly others, I'm not some kind of ikea expert, or anything! Grin)

This is actually the best thing ever- a book igloo, built from plywood, in a studio flat- the double bed is housed inside...

Just awesome! Grin

An igloo! Amazing! Grin not for us though I don't think

We couldn't do the shelving around the bed unfortunately just because of the way our bedroom is set up.

Hm, I'll keep thinking!

Bookshelves on a door, so it looks as if you have a secret room

Don't suppose you have an unused fireplace and could stack books in that?

Under bed drawers on wheels?

Thanks for all the ideas! I like the fireplace idea. We have a fireplace but it has an old gas thing in there. We could use the hearth (sp?) though.

I've been trying to sort our furniture out and have two cupboards available to us.

Can I ask your opinion: neither of them fit in the hall perfectly. Would it be better to have the low, shallower, wide one in the hall or the tall, deeper, narrower one in the hall?

The shallower one is great because it makes it easy to walk through the hall but it overhangs the bedroom door frame by a few inches.

The deeper narrower one fits in the space perfectly width wise BUT it's deep and comes halfway into the hall

They both have space for books in and on them.

I would probably go for the tall one in the hall, as you don't spend a huge amount of time there and you could get loads of books on it.
