Inspiration for improving a 3 bed semi, 1960's box style house

Our house is a 3 bed semi built in late 1960's. It is very box like with no character features. Large open plan living/dining area but small separate kitchen.
We've been here 9 years and it's looking a bit tired. We don't have much spare money so just want to decorate and improve it gradually.
Thing is my and dh are rubbish at this sort of thing and have no eye for colours or style.

I have bought some home mags for inspiration but they are mostly featuring large, old style houses with bags of character so they just aren't suitable for our house.

Where can I get inspiration to suit our style of house?

Completely know how you feel moved into a box room flat no features and all magnolia!

Pick colours or a theme you like, for example my living room I went for country style as our sofa is brown, I went into next for inspiration then looked on ebay and in charity shops for cheaper versions, so we have check cushions and cushions with a stagg and fox on them, I bought a Welsh dresser from eBay to hide all our TV bits and an old fashion trunk as a coffee table from bootsale! Painting below our dadoe rail a lovely green too.

My next mission is our bedroom and I'm going for golds like Indian/marrocian style because my mum bought us a lovely cancel holder of that style!

Do you have a b&m near you they sell b&q wallpaper as cheap as 1.99 so you don't need a huge budge!!

Hope this helps x

If you really have no sense of style ( I can t believe that !) why not ask for an interior designer to give you a consultation - some do the first visit free ?! It's worth asking ! A good tip if you are living in a simple not characterful home is to white wash the walls and make the furniture the feature - add vibrant or elegant pieces as focal points in the room - eg have a pair of classic styled sofas opposite eachother with one fabulous freestanding cabinet on the side wall between them with the TV hidden inside - then in the opposite wall have a faux fireplace - it's simple and all of a sudden you have focal points in your room !!
