I have a very oak living room, oak floor, oak sideboard and tv unit. My sofa is going to be replaced but it is oatmeal at the moment.

I would like to add colour to the room with a rug, I was going to go for a muted colour but I saw this one at Brintons for £499.

What do you think, does it look cheap? Is it nice, I can't decide?

Wow. I think if you're going to go for a rug like that it has to be the centrepiece of a room and you have to really love it! Sounds like you're not sure enough...?

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 21/01/2014 22:19

It's very funky although I wouldn't think it was that expensive at all.

If you like it go for it but make sure you really like it otherwise it will drive you nuts with it being so vibrant.

Just to add, with a rug like that I'd only put it with darker chunky furniture like java.I think it's far too much for oak to carry it off

Thanks for the reply, yes I think it does bother me it looks a lot cheaper than it is.

I am probably not sure enough for such a vibrant rug. I am just sick of all the beige / oatmeal colours around and have run in the other direction!

We have a 'vibrant' rug as a centrepiece in our living room, and it works well, with dark red sofa, curtains, etc. However, as it's something I consider I want to change fairly regularly, along with things like cushions, etc, I didn't and wouldn't pay anything like £499! More like £49. I wouldn't pay that much for it, but if it's what floats your boat and you have loads of disposable cash, then go for it.

Mine came from Ikea, and they have loads there in all sorts of colours and patterns.

We bought a rug from here:
Rugs of the World

It suited us because there is a reasonable choice but not so many that the search becomes overwhelming!

Thanks janeyjampot, the tribal rugs are especially fab. I am still attracted to all the red ones... I may go for a maroon type of red and it won't be so 'vibrant'.

Might be easier to add the bright colours as art work and cushions - as cheaper to change When you feel like it !
