What colour living room walls to go with a red sofa?

Moving house soon (fingers crossed) and will need to do a lot of repainting.

Our sofas are red (they're Ikea Ektorp in Idemo red, here) so what colour can we paint the room that would look ok? We've just got new covers for the sofas and like them, so we don't want to go and get new ones, though we could if we had to.

Don't want to do grey and would like to avoid magnolia if possible. It's a big, light room in a Georgian house.

Thanks Smile

White ? And go for a Nordic look ? Add a bit of gingham with scatter cushions ?! You could even add the other primary colours too in cushions and rugs etc ?
My first thought was grey as it's a key colour at the moment - but as you said you didn't want grey ...

a sort of mocha colour? Deeper than magnolia but easy to live with

Personally I would have bright orange walls with a red sofa.
But if you want to be really funky about! pink walls green ceilingGrinGrinGrin

It's what I meant by mocha too

Imprecise language, eh?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 20/01/2014 09:10

Duh, I thought mocha meant dark like chocolate, but you're right.

Merrybuddha - I suspect dh would love bright orange walls Grin

A very soft sagey green could look nice.

We used to have a red sofa and love seat similar to those. Our walls were a pale green. I also like Joas White as well though.
