Have set my heart on a very expensive sofa.

It's in John Lewis and I don't want a cheaper alternative. Our existing sofas are from there approx. 15 years ago and still look new, so I'm happy that the sofa is value for money but it is a lot of money. This is an extra sofa for another room, I'm not replacing the old ones.

I know most furniture shops have regular sales, is JL the same? I'm not in any particular rush, I can wait if there's a possibility it will be a bargain in a few months time....Any ideas?

I don't know but you've just reminded me that I saw a carpet in there the other day that I wanted to check out.... we could be broke together?

LEMmingaround · 18/01/2014 20:46

If you can buy it without credit, go for it.

RubyRR · 18/01/2014 20:47

Which sofa?

nessus · 18/01/2014 20:50

Have you looked on ebay for the sofa?

oadcb · 18/01/2014 20:59

You might be best starting a thread shouting out to John Lewis staff to get the info.

oadcb · 18/01/2014 21:01

Also try and find out more about it. May get it cheaper elsewhere or direct

I couldn't possibly tell you that Ruby Grin I've learned that lesson in Style & Beauty. Find the "perfect" outfit, post there all pleased with myself only to have it slated and start doubting myself

We can pay for it but I will be gutted if I see I in a sale a few weeks after paying full price

Ask instore and as they are a decent sort of company I would expect they would give you an honest answer - if you'd prefer something in writing - why not email them instead ?!

John lewis have an outlet store in Swindon. You may be lucky and find it there. We got our really nice leather sofas from there with 40% off. They're only two years old but are standing up to whatever we throw at them very well.

What do you mean by "very expensive?"

I saw a sofa in Liberty just before Christmas which was £3,000. I am contemplating buying it because I love it so much.

I justify that because I have never had a handbag worth more than £70 or a pair of shoes ditto. We hardly ever spend money on things for the house, most of what we have is old, cheap or secondhand.

I've never really noticed JL doing sales on their current sofas very often. They tend to have clearance bargains in store or do Special Offers twice a year. These seem to be the same design on sofas but made with cheaper fabrics. If you really love it, I'd buy. Price per use and all that it'll be worth it. Nothing worse than saving a few hundred on something cheaper and then wishing, a few years later, you'd just bought the one you actually wanted
