Do I decorate whole room or have statement wall?

I know mumsnet hates statement walls.

Having to redecorate lounge due to water leak.

Chosen this wallpaper.

Can I do the whole of a room (3.2m x 3.8m) or would it be too much?

Carpet is light gold (beige?!)

Sofa is cream

Shorter wall will mainly be window and these matching curtains

Big cut out doorway on other short wall into other room.

The other room hasn't had a leak so I'm using the gold birds wallpaper just on the chimney wall as I'm having to match papers in both rooms.

Advice appreciated as decorator coming next week & I need to order paper!

Thx

That's a Lot of gold if you do all the walls....I mean with gold curtains and beige/gold carpet. Wouldn't you be better with different curtains? Something which tones? I think the paper is lovely and would be fine on all walls if the room is biggish by the way.

Thanks for reply.

I was just thinking its a lot of gold. Currently I have statement walls in a gorgeous pale blue leaf design picked out in gold on cream background. Then cushions in same blue as well as creams and golds. I feel like I'm losing a colour from the scheme. I might add back in another tone. Possibly a few deep red / burgundy cushions. The rooms are quite dark so Im trying to keep things light.

The new wallpaper looks different IRL very cream with gold design not all gold toned. I could get different curtains. Not sure what.

Pale blue looks gorgeous with gold...red and gold might look a bit...I don't know "Italian" or something and not in a good way...

here on Pinterest are a load of lovely rooms in those colours

Thanks Maureen

I have a brown leather sofa in the adjoining room so need to fit in with that a bit.

I'm really Hmm to have to replace my blue walls but as i have to was thinking be good to change the colours in the room. Happy with the gold birds. Think Im going to go with it on all walls in one room (avoid the dreaded statement wall!)

Will look at the blue ideas & think of how to avoid a sea of gold & cream blandness...

Totally agree with Maureen... Pale blue and gold: lovely. Red/burgundy and gold: brothel. Actually, while I quite like the design, I'd only do either walls OR curtains in that pattern, probably walls, all over. Then break it up/tone it down with curtains or blinds in a contrasting and less opulent fabric, like a slubby natural or grey linen.

Just seen reply from brown sauce. Thanks for input. Liking the idea of toning down the fabric to something 'less opulent'. Still thinking blue. Need to see redecorated room to decide.

I've gone with all over gold bird paper in one room and replacing feature wall in adjoining room. I have cream with gold fleck wallpaper on the other walls which I love & was slightly unwilling to lose in my lounge but for the water leak.

I also think it would be a killer to have the whole of two rooms in the gold birds wallpaper.
